Homer is a beautiful little town located 220 miles south of Anchorage, Alaska. Sitting right on Kachemak Bay our town offers breathtaking views of the Kenai Mountains across the water. We enjoy fairly temperate weather compared to the rest of Alaska and though we have our share of dark winter days, the long summer days almost make up for it.
Locals sometimes refer to Homer as the "Cosmic Hamlet By The Sea". We count many artists, writers, entrepreneurs, and free thinkers among our 5,000 residents and we certainly have more than our fair share of hip restaurants serving delicious and inspired dishes. Our population almost doubles in the summer when we are visited by travelers from all over the world. Many come to fish and are not disappointed here in the "Halibut Fishing Capitol Of The World".
The Homer Spit (spit is a geological term for a long, thin peninsula) juts 5 miles out into Kachemak Bay and is where you'll find our small boat harbor, charter fishing offices, restaurants, and many quaint little shops. On a sunny summer day it's the place to be to people watch, spot eagles soaring overhead, and take in the awesome view of glaciers and mountains rising up from the sparkling water.
